Club Monaco Lux 5-pocket Corduroy

via Clubmonaco.com

via Clubmonaco.com

We were scouring the online sale rack of Club Monaco (where we end up at least once every 3 days) and stumbled on these bad boys. These cotton blend corduroy pants from Club Monaco have a classic jean-style 5-pocket construction, a slim cut through the leg, and are made of a cotton blend that includes a hint of stretch so bending down to pet your dog won't result in any ripped seams or abrupt crouching halts due to excess tension around the knees. So pet away, just remember to lint roll them after to get all of that dog hair off of you. Right now they are 30% off so take advantage while you can. We suggest wearing them with a gray henley (like the pick from yesterday) or a simple white button for a smart look that can't go out of style if it tried.

Available on sale at ClubMonaco.com for $70 (normally $99)

Buck Mason Vintage Tri-Blend Curved hem Henley

via BuckMason.com

via BuckMason.com

"The new classic" is a phrase that is thrown around a lot in marketing. Whether its a car commercial, furniture ads, or apparel marketing, chances are a few brands have used it. However, when looking into the new henleys from Buck Mason the phrase came to mind. It has a blended cotton fabric that gives it a vintage look and texture, the classic henley 4-button design shouts 1920s lounge wear, and the curved hem at the bottom produces a casual silhouette drawn from old baseball tees of yesteryear. Giving it a surprisingly authentic vintage feel, for a newly made product. This is definitely a staple base layer for the spring transition and a great "just in case" toss-in for a weekend away in the summer. This is a $50 shirt that you'll get your money's worth out of. We suggest wearing it with a pair of jeans, and a black Chelsea boot or chukka. And on a colder day, maybe a thinker button-down on top.

Nike Metcon 4s

via Nike.com

via Nike.com

The Metcon 4s, named after their intended use during Metabolic Conditioning, or prolonged high-intensity workouts, are a Crossfit staple. If you go to any box or cross training gym, chances are you'll see a close to 50-50 split between the members sporting these or the Reebok Nanos. This is because they are made to do pretty much everything. They have a condensed heel to provide some impact reduction while running, while also preventing side to side shifting or tilting in the heel during weighted lifts. And while Nike has introduced a flyknit version, many have experienced sizing and performance issues making the traditional Metcons the pick that won't steer you wrong from 800m run to low bar back squat.

Bear Komplex Carbon Fiber Grips

via bearkomplex.com

via bearkomplex.com

If you are going to name your company "Bear Komplex" you better be pretty tough and make workout gear that is even tougher because that workout is brutal. These grips, aren't the gymnastic grips turned cross training hand protectors, these are through and through made for weightlifting bar work. Made with carbon fiber and designed with three finger holes instead of two, these cover more of your hand and will be damn near impossible to tear. So if you are #InTheOpen and don't want to chance ripping early, and end up tearing your hands up by 18.4, snag a set of these.

Reebok CrossFit Open Training T-shirt

via reebok.com

via reebok.com

If you are #InTheOpen then there is no better shirt for showing it off over the next, you know, 11 months than this one. The shirt is a cotton polyester blend, and has a bit of stretch like you would expect from an athletic brand betting what seems like over a 3rd of their budget on a single type of cross training. It's pretty breathable though the graphic can get in the way from the wicking we'd all like to have in the chest, but that can be overlooked as its the best way to tell everyone you are doing Crossfit, without actually telling them. So keep your voice and workout style game strong with a sick t-shirt that does all the talking for you.

Nike Training Utility Tights

via Nike.com

via Nike.com

When you're in the middle of a workout for time, or long AMRAP (that is hopefully less than 20 minutes) that involves any standing olympic-style lift, grazing your shins with the bar is inevitable. And if you are super unlucky, the knurling catches on its way up to a snatch or power clean, causing some burning, bleeding and bruising, not to mention you have to disinfect the bar afterwards, and your shins. If you have been doing Crossfit, or know someone who has for a while you've almost certainly seen shins that look like they've been on a tour of duty or two. To keep this from happening, and maintain the beauties that are your shins and knees, wear a pair of training tights, like these from Nike. Not only will you instantly fit in at any box around the world, you will also protect yourself from your own in-workout rage monster pulls. We suggest wearing them with shorts, unless you are super confident, and don't mind feeling naked while working out.

Lululemon T.H.E 7 Inch Shorts

via lululemon.com

via lululemon.com

While we are still recovering from 18.1 of The Open, we are looking to the remaining 4 weeks in anticipation for the workout that will destroy our legs. In the spirit of the impending quad busters, we are giving you a pair of workout shorts that show off all the work you've done over the winter. Let those quads out and free up some movement with a 7 inch inseam and 4 way stretch material built for cross training. A note on fit: lulu has decided to change their waistband to be less stretchy and a little tighter, so if you have some junk in the trunk or thunder thighs order a size up from your usual.

Nike Dri-Fit Training Hoodie

via Nike.com

via Nike.com

Since we are still in workout mode, lets talk about dynamics of running in the spring. What can start out as a freezing and wet warm up jog, can end in a sweaty run in sunshine with a temperature that is 12 degrees warmer. This is why having a top layer that can adjust to your current conditions is curcial. This Dri-fit hoodie from Nike has a form fitting hood that stays on while you run in the rain, or snow for that matter. It has a little-bit-more-than-quarter-zip front zipper for heat control, thump holes to keep the sleeves down, and back vents to keep you cool when the sun comes out, making it the perfect top layer for indoor/outdoor training aka rounds that start with 800m runs (woof), or a long run in unpredictable weather.

Reebok Crossfit Nano 8 Flexweave

via Reebok.com

via Reebok.com

In honnor of the Crossfit Open starting, we will be giving you our top workout picks over the next 4 weeks. To kick things off, we chose a new standard in cross-training footwear: the Nano 8s. The Nano line has long been a staple of the reebok Crossfit collection, with the most popular being the Nano 2.0s. However, these new 8s have the brand new flex weave that provides a level of breathability and durability not seen in many other Crossfit shoe. So say "see ya later" to the ripped toe creases and wobbly heals, and say hello to fresh feet even after your coaches make you do "Kelly" and "Karen" within 4 days of each other.

S'well Smoky Quartz 17oz Water Bottle

via swell.com

via swell.com

Staying hydrated is an endless endeavor. So having a companion water bottle that will keep your water cold the whole day through is crucial. We really like these S'well bottles because of how well they insulate, but also because they offer a matte finish that has a very minimalistic aesthetic that you don't get with the traditional translucent water bottle you used in high school. We suggest going with the 17oz because it fits in most cup holders and is perfect for gauging intake, with 7 of these getting you to the recommended daily dose (3.7 liters) of agua.

Nordstrom Parker Floral Skinny Tie

via Nordstrom.com

via Nordstrom.com

Give us floral or give us death! There's nothing more appropriate when embodying spring than adorning the symbol of new life itself (aka flowers). This 100% silk skinny tie is 2 1/2 inches wide at its thickest, so keep that in mind if you are a man of wider stature. What to wear it with: Rather than trying to match the blue base with a blue suit you already own, we suggest wearing it with a medium to light gray suit with a white shirt and add some light red in the form of a pocket square to make the flowers pop.

Everlane Heavyweight Pocket T

via everlane.com

via everlane.com

Life in the the Everlane means wearing clothes that aren't unnecessarily over priced due to brand reputation. This heavyweight pocket T costs Everlane about 12 dollars to make, and they sell it for $28, which is a pretty small mark up compared to their competitors. This pocket T is the perfect gateway T for the impending spring transition. It's made with a heavier cotton, that is a little rougher meaning it's a bit warmer and will last longer, softening with increased wear. The heavyweight T idea isn't new to Everlane, but the pocket is, which we whole heartedly endorse as we empathize and stand with the puffy nipple population to which pocket T's provide some relief.

The North Face Fanorak Pull Over

via Nordstrom.com

via Nordstrom.com

The North Face is taking a page out of Gen X's High school closet with this new "windbreaker" jacket. Complete with a touch of flashy turquoise and a cargo front pocket, this jacket screams new age thrift store gem. The best part about it, is that you don't have to wash it 5 times before you feel you've gotten the previous owners smell out of the collar. This lightweight pull over is 100% polyester, water resistant and windproof, making it a great top layer for hiking, and for a quick walk to the store in March and April when every other day seems to have rain in the forecast. What's even better is that it has a hood that stays up on your head, unlike many of the designs from the 90's, releaving the need to walk with your head down just to stay dry.

Timberland Brook Park Chukka Boot

via timberland.com

via timberland.com

This is one of those cases where a Tim looks more like a Cole. These Chukkas from Timberland are more office appropriate boots compared to their iconic brethren, and don't scream its namesake with a large tree stamp on the outer heal, making them our top pick for this price point. While Timberland does offer another chukka with nicer leather, they tend to fall apart sooner than one would expect. These however, offer longevity, at lower risk (cost) and keep mother earth in mind as the inner lining is made from 50% recycled plastic. Note on wear: make sure you wear high socks with these as the tops can feel mildly sharp against your ankle bone if you go with no shows.

Regardless of how much you work out, you can't change your face. It's a hard truth, but a truth nonetheless. Since you can't really change your face, you might as well take care of it so it looks as good and healthy as it can. This is where the Kiehl's comes in. This Energizing facial scrub is the right face wash for those with facial skin that likes to peel, crack and flake. The scrubbing beads exfoliate while the apricot oil hydrates, and the caffeine and menthol invigorate the skin, leaving it looking healthier and more firm than before. A note on use: this isn'y a daily facial cleanser, but to be used 2-3 times a week at most, as to allow your skin to maintain its natural oils.
